Eastern European scene has been a mystery and obscurity for westerners for a long time. Metal behind the Iron Curtain? Can this be true? Yes – it can. If one talks about Ukrainian Black Metal scene, one can notice profound uniqueness – they have so many talented and admired bands that this region could be one of the leaders worldwide. Without a doubt, one of the most promising bands from the latter land – quintet SEMARGL.

What is needed in order to be recognized and well known? Of course, first comes talent, but strong will and hard work is highly important as well. These are the qualities that SEMARGL possesses and that lead them to significant results. Guys from Kiev have recorded four albums over the span of ten years. They have been working in the best Polish and German studios and now are signed with “Twilight Vertrieb” - well known and respected label. Their albums feature guest appearances from such bands as MY DYING BRIDE, DARZAMAT, CARPATHIAN FOREST, VADER, IMMORTAL and some more.

However, why are they special? Firstly, music of SEMARGL is varied and abrupt. Having started from typical Black metal, they moved towards more “deadly” sound and atypical riffs, while last album, “Ordo Bellictum Satanas” hosts surprising acoustic riffs and darkwave intonations. Their music should appeal to those who like cold, rough and grim sound, but those, who are looking for some drive and rock'n'roll should not be disappointed as well. After witnessing SEMARGL live, even devils of Anyksciai would not remain indifferent.
