Devilstone 2020 is cancelled
Seeing that European festivals and shows are being cancelled while other events are postponed multiple times, we have to make this hard, yet right decision.
Even though the Lithuanian government has not banned mass summer events yet, it is quite obvious that the situation in Lithuania and Europe will not be fit for events planned for this summer. This is being pointed out in directions from governments in multiple other countries stating that no mass events will be allowed even when the lockdown ends.
37 acts out of 55 from abroad were going to perform at Devilstone 2020. All artists had to be announced by the end of April. However, we will not be able to do that anymore.
Even if in July mass events and festivals will be allowed in Lithuania, we cannot promise to arrange Devilstone as we have been planning it. Not at the level that would be worth the ticket price. Closed countries and airports, as well as strict quarantine measures in European countries are crushing our hopes to realise the full festival programme as we planned it. Even though none of our artists have cancelled their Devilstone performance yet, it would be naive to hope that it will not happen in the near future.
Due to this world-crushing pandemic, we can no longer continue to organise the festival and realise the vision of Devilstone as we imagined it. And we cannot allow ourselves to plan an event dubious in its quality. That would be disrespectful towards you, the artists, and our all partners and sponsors. And we really do not want to plan a smaller event by cutting down some of the festival’s essential parts such as the art programme or one of our stages. Just no.
Most importantly, we cannot risk the safety of our guests as mass events provide an ideal environment for the virus to spread. It is yet to be seen how fast and how wide the virus is going to spread. The first prognoses were assuring that things will go back to normal by the beginning of the summer. Today it is more than obvious that the pandemic will last longer.
Extremely saddened and disheartened, we must cancel Devilstone 2020.
We have put a lot of sincere work into this year’s festival, gathered an awesome line-up, arranged a beautiful art programme, and came up with lots of interesting and innovative surprises. The 12th Devilstone had to be special!
We are hoping that the pandemic will be handled by 2021, so we are already starting to work towards Devilstone 2021. With a healthy dose of fire and professional anger, we will be aiming to transfer a large part of this year’s line-up to the following year. If everything will be fine with the world in 2021, see you in Anykščiai.
We do not doubt that everyone had huge expectations for this year's edition of the festival. You bought Early Bird, limited edition Devilstone 2020 tickets and even some during last week. We are beyond grateful. With great enthusiasm, we are starting to prepare for Devilstone 2021 right now.
3 months before the festival we already had a lot of expenses which would be difficult to get back and in some cases impossible. Advance payments have been made to bands, merchandise and art designers, technical equipment partners and art programme’s artists. Every purchased ticket is now more important than ever. There’s nothing to hide - we have experienced a financial loss, and the proceeds from the tickets are vital in preparation for next year’s Devilstone.
So please - hold on to your tickets. They will be valid for 2021. It would be the greatest support we can expect from you at this difficult time for everyone.
We can assure that the majority of this year’s confirmed artists would still like to play Devilstone 2021. Believe us, we have brilliant surprises that we have not revealed yet.
If you would still like to return your ticket and could benefit from the money you spent, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Together with all of you we want to create an interesting, diverse, artistic and strong alternative festival in Anykščiai. So we are hoping that you will want to keep your ticket for the following year. We will do everything in our power to make Devilstone 2021 fantastic and memorable while hopefully meeting your highest expectations.
Take note and remember: the next year the festival will take place on July 15-16-17-18, in the beautiful Dainuva valley of Anykščiai.
THANK YOU for your understanding and support.
With love, Devilstone crew.
